Pathway to Net-Zero: Dr Rajendra Shende delivers Memorial Lecture: Youth Climate Action at Vidyalankar Institute of Technology

Vidyalankar Institute of Technology, Mumbai, has joined the Smart Campus Cloud Network (SCCN), reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and student-led innovation. After this milestone Dr. Rajendra Shende, Director of the Green TERRE Foundation and former UNEP Director, addressed students and faculty at Vidyalankar Institute of Technology, Mumbai, during the Prof. C. S. Deshpande Memorial Lecture. His talk, titled “Transforming Education to Up-skill University Youth for Net Zero Future,” emphasized integrating digital innovation, sustainability practices, and climate leadership into higher education. Dr. Shende urged institutions to align learning with climate action, transforming campuses into living laboratories for Net-Zero solutions.

Accelerating Climate Action: Two Prestigious Universities Join SCCN’s Smart Campus Revolution

We are proud to announce that Jigme Namgyel Engineering College (JNEC), Bhutan, has officially joined the Smart Campus Cloud Network (SCCN). As a part of the world’s only carbon-negative nation, JNEC exemplifies Bhutan’s strong commitment to share its experiences to other universities.

We are also thrilled to welcome C. V. Raman Global University (CGU Odisha) into the Smart Campus Cloud Network (SCCN), a pioneering global platform transforming educational campuses into hubs of climate action and green innovation to achieve its NetZero goals and capacity building.

Representing Bhutan’s carbon-negative leadership and Odisha’s climate innovation excellence, both universities bring unique strengths in advancing Net-Zero goals, green technologies, and collaborative climate action. Their entry sets a global example of higher education uniting across borders for a smarter, low-carbon future.

Drones in military conflict and Drones in promoting Sustainability: Initiative of GTF, AIT and Drone Entry, Thailand

The Smart Campus Cloud Network (SCCN) has partnered with Drone Entry, Thailand and Dronacharya, India to pioneer drone-enabled solutions for climate action and skill development. This strategic collaboration will establish university-based drone labs and deliver specialized training programs in agri-tech, disaster management, and emissions monitoring.

Dronacharya will lead industry-academia initiatives including drone skilling courses, RPTO certifications, and real-world applications like solar farm inspections and hyperlocal air quality mapping.

By integrating advanced drone technology with education, this alliance directly contributes to SDG 7 (Affordable Energy) and SDG 13 (Climate Action) while creating a scalable model for youth empowerment and community resilience. The partnership marks a significant leap in transforming campuses into hubs for sustainable innovation and practical climate solutions.

No More Talk - Time for Everyone to Act!

Dr. Rajendra Shende's interview with Press on 5th June, World Environment Day

For years, climate change was confined to international negotiations, conferences, and expert circles — but now it’s affecting everyday life. What difference will this make? How do you view this change?

In reality, this is a triple crisis. As UN Secretary-General António Guterres rightly says: it’s a crisis of air pollution, biodiversity loss, and climate change. Most discussions at global summits or among experts are often beyond the comprehension of ordinary people. For instance, when I spoke to a farmer in Rahimatpur, he casually said, "Of course, the climate is changing." And if I mention biodiversity loss, the response is often, "Species have always gone extinct, new ones come too." However, when it comes to air pollution, there is no debate — everyone agrees it’s a problem. People respond by planting trees, but we don’t actually quantify how much that helps reduce pollution.
