Over the last 33 years, Mr Ovais S have served within the intergovernmental / multilateral United Nations System holding various roles.
From 2017 to 2023, Mr Ovais S served as the Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Climate Change secretariat (UNFCCC). Prior to the UNFCCC, he spent 27 years at the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Headquarters and the Philippines working in several management and policy capacities in IOM including serving as the Chief of Staff. Mr Ovais S is from Hyderabad, India where he graduated from Osmania University as a bachelor’s in Commerce in 1982 and then qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant from London in 1988. He is married to a Spanish woman and have two sons. He live intermittently in Benissa/Spain, Hyderabad/India and Geneva/Switzerland - places where he has a strong social and family ties.
In his experience, Mr Ovais S have come to the understanding that "despite diverse opinions and interests, we share a common vision to see people prosper and safeguard our planet for future generations and build an equitable and safe world. We need to become stewards of our responsibility towards each other and our environment. We must ensure that we work towards a healthy re-balanced equation of society’s interaction with nature."
Mr Ovais S is a congenital-stubborn optimist and remain committed to sustainable development and growth, meaningful climate action, environmental sustainability and integrity - advising and supporting public and private sector initiatives, policies and organizations for a better world in which people-planet-prosperity thrives.
