Eco- friendly Smart Campus: Success Story of Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering and Technology

Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering and Technology, a CFTI under the ministry of Education, Govt. of India is located at Narayanpur, Malda, West Bengal, India. This Institute is growing in a sprawling area of 101 acres of lands, 4 Academic Buildings each of about 3024 sq. m area. Hon'ble Director GKCIET, Prof. P.R.Alapati has taken numerous initiatives with Faculty and students of the institute to keep the campus clean and eco- friendly.


1. Tree Plantation Programmes
Round the year institute organize tree plantation programmes in which faculty , students and staff actively participate. The institute made a master plan to plant at least 250 Trees in the campus to make the campus cleaner and pollution free. Under this plan every teacher, staff and student issued one plant each on their name to take care about its nourishment. The Narayanpur, BSF , SHQ also have joined the initiative of the institute.

2. Swacchata Pakhwara programme
This is organized every year in the institute to motivate and encourage environment friendly activities in the institute. The aim of this programme was to initiate activities in the inspiration of the theme sacchata hi seva initiated by Govt. of India. Activities like campaigning against use of plastic, water conservation and cleanliness starts in August continues upto 2nd October, the day of birth of the father of the nation , Mahatma Gandhi . Also several other activities like procuring dustbins for all the required places, repairing the water outlets, repairing the water filters of the institute are periodically conducted.

3. MOU with EESL
The institute has signed an MOU with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a unit of Ministry of Energy, Govt of for conducting special training programmes for faculty and students to revamp the awareness of Energy Efficiency in the campus.


4. 100 KWp Solar Power Plant project
The institute has also envisioned to establish a 100 KWp solar power plant in the campus. The power demand of the institute is presently around 160 KWp. Endowment of the same power plant will be able to supply maximum of the electricity demand of the institute and will lead the institute towards Energy autonomy. The plan under the kind leadership of Hon'ble Director, GKCIET has been approved in RESCO mode by the Board of Governors of the Institute. The plan is on its way of implementation.
