Brief Profile of Prof. Dr. S. Parasuraman

Prof. Dr. S. Parasuraman is currently Principal Advisor & Dean of Faculty of Sustainability Studies (FSS) of MIT World Peace University (WPU), prior to that he was Vice Chancellor of MIT World Peace University, Pune. Before joining MIT-WPU he was Director (Vice-Chancellor) of one of the finest institutions of India – Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) for fourteen long years.  He has over 25 years of rich experience as a teacher, trainer, activist, administrator and development worker.

 
Dr. Parasuraman has a Ph.D. in Science (Demography) completed course work from IIT Mumbai, thesis from International Institute for Population Sciences, Mumbai and degree awarded by University of Mumbai. He is also a United Nations Fellow on Population and Development; Institute of Social Studies The Hague; Fellow, East-West Centre, Honolulu, Hawaii; C.P.S., International Institute for Population Sciences, Mumbai; D.P.D. from ISS.
 
Dr. Parsuraman’s research and area of expertise lies in Sustainable Development Goals (UN - SDGs), Child Rights, Planning and Development, Water and energy resources - options assessment and decision-making processes, Public Policy, Development Debate, Involuntary resettlement of people, Globalization and Governance, Social exclusion and Inclusive Policies, Disaster management. With that he has a rich experience of teaching Social Anthropology, Demography, Research Methodology, Rural Development, Public Policy, International Financial Architecture and Disasters Management.

He has hold coveted positions as Senior Fudan Fellow, Fudan University, Shanghai, China, Adjunct Professor, National Institute of Rural Development, Ministry of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Hyderabad, Advisory Committee Member – STRIDE ( Govt. of India Research Scheme under UGC ),Advisory Board Member – NAAC, Board Member – CRY ( Child Relief and You and many more in his illustrious life. 

 
Prof. Parasuraman enjoys working in challenging social, political and physical environments. He has always liked to be part of a larger team and has the rare ability to work in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary team.
