As per the mandate given by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the University Grants Commission (UGC), SCCN is poised to facilitate dialogue and sharing of ideas amongst students and faculty of various campuses in the country so as to share and implement the best practices in order to make the educational campuses smart. The committee has also directed the institutes to put in place an effective mechanism for the implementation of the SCCN. Being part of SCCN will thus be a significant contribution to the realization of Smart Cities and Smart India mission unveiled by the Hon. Prime Minister.

SCCN focuses on the activities in campus that care for ecosystems, which includes necessary steps to mitigate climate change by reducing green house gases, reducing air and water pollution while improving health, well being and economic opportunities for the youth. The network plays a unique role in bridging the gap between students and faculty in order to shape the minds of future leaders. SCCN is aimed at catering action-platforms for campus-wide energy conservation, energy efficiency, sustainable mobility, environment friendly behavior etc. towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Symbiosis family has invariably been a leading torch-bearer in the aspects of energy, sustainable environment and has been collectively working towards making the world a better place to live. In order to meet the industry needs for energy experts, SIIB offers an elite MBA in Energy & Environment which complements the fact that being part of SCCN was a more prudent decision. Students of SIIB now have access to the platform's API which will drive them in developing smart campus applications and analytics which will strengthen the subject matter expertise in the areas of Smart campus and Smart Cities. SIIB is proudly, now the first educational institute in India to be a part of SCCN.

Currently, one energy meter has been installed to monitor real-time energy consumption at SIIB. This has helped us to understand the current trend, seasonality and the demand of energy. In future, we hope to utilize this data to conserve and reduce overall energy consumption at SIIB.

We are hopeful that Smart Campus Cloud Network will connect the youth by communications and actions and leverage their collective potential to forge partnerships to access technical and financial resources. Needless to say, SIIB is immensely getting benefited after becoming a part of SCCN and it will be of great impetus if other institutes also join hands in this initiative.
