Christ University, An existing Smart Campus

"If you think going to college is a waste of time, Christ University will probably make sure you segregate it first"

Where we talk about creating Smart campuses with a sustainability approach, we cannot overlook the ways in which Christ University has made it happen. The university was awarded 'Best Institutional Buildings and Garden' award by Bangalore Urban Arts Commission for three consecutive years between 2000-2002 and won the 'Best Institutional Garden' instituted by the Mysore Horticulture for 24 consecutive years including 2012. Additionally, campus is an active participants of Tree Plantation drives. The campus is a zero-waste campus and recycles its wet waste and used paper. The campus is also a model of cashless campus with students being provided with smart cards serving as identity cards and debit cards. The card is issued by the South Indian Bank.

The five methods that the campus has been consistently adopting are:

(1) Using recycled waste water for gardening and composting

(2) Waste segregation

(3) Converting food waste into cooking gas and creating employment

(4) Composting organic waste to get rich fertilizer

(5) Recycling answer scripts to create books for the poor

SCCN positively looks forward to Christ University as an Energy-Efficient Campus as well!!!
