SDGs and Covid-19 Pandemic: A Webinar

First ever webinar on Impact of COVID-19 on SDGs was held on 17th April. The webinar was organised jointly by TERRE Policy Centre, MIT-WPU and Tata Institute of Social Sciences. The focus was on impact of COVID-19 on Food security and SDG 1 and 2.

Dr. Rajendra Shende, Chairman, TERRE Policy Centre gave a keynote start to the webinar by giving a brief outline on impact of COVID-19 on SDGs. Prof. Ramkumar, a well-known development economist and currently NABARD chair and professor at Tata Institute of Social Sciences gave key note speech. He stated in clear line that the burden of this crisis right now is disproportionately borne by the peasantry and the working class - who are most integral to production in rural areas that constitutes the backbone of the Indian economy. Without adequate policies, the pandemic is likely to worsen the agrarian distress that is endemic to the neoliberal regime in India. The key would be effective distribution of the food to reach to all the strata of the society.

The webinar observed a great global participation. A total of 75 Participants from Australia, Dubai, Singapore, Dhaka, Germany, Afghanistan, Timor Leste, Amsterdam took active participation by providing their valuable inputs.
