Located in the Satara district of Maharashtra, Kaas Plateau (locally known as Kaas Patthar) is a hotspot for biodiversity in the Sahyadri sub-cluster of the Western Ghats.
TERRE Policy Centre was instrumental in supporting Government of India in getting UNESCO's World Natural Heritage Site status for The Plateau of Kaas in the year 2012. Since then, TERRE along with Satara Forest Department and Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC) undertakes the initiative of keeping a community dialogue at local level to view the progress and plans for the various activities related to conservation and community development.
Every year, Annual Report Card is prepared by TERRE, where under its Smart Campus Cloud Network (SCCN) project it gives opportunities to young expert volunteers to contribute by collecting data, interacting with the local communities, JFMC members and Forest department with strong knowledge on World Natural Heritages and Sustainable livelihood. Our young expert volunteers for Annual Report Card 2018 are Anuja Gurjar, Akshay Kulkarni and Neha Potnis lead by Dinah Gengmei, Project Leader under the mentorship of Rajendra Shende, Chairman TERRE Policy Centre and Former Director UNEP.
The Annual Report Card 2018 will be out soon. Stay posted !!
