Air pollution is a foggy and fatal problem on our planet . It is result of the path of the development and the choice of technologies that humanity has selected. Indeed, air-pollution and the climate change are the two sides of the same coin.
As per WHO air pollution is responsible for the premature deaths of about seven million people annually of which 600,000 are children. Every five seconds, somebody around the world dies prematurely as a result of air pollution. This figure is much more
than COVID19 deaths which over last 18 months  have caused around 3 million deaths.
It is estimated that 90 per cent of the world's population breathe polluted air. Again much more than the population that has affected by COVID19 so far.
What is the most crucial part of the issue is that contaminated air is seminally related to the human right to a healthy environment which is fundamental to the well-being of people. This right is recognized by over 150 countries at the national and regional levels around the world.
Although the Chinese capital, Beijing and Indian capital New Delhi have become synonymous with dirty air over the past decade, a concerted efforts by local and regional authorities have seen somewhat improved situation in recent years. However
the concentration of fine particulates PM ( Particulate Matter) 10 and 2.5 which are the tiny, invisible airborne particles that are mainly responsible for deaths and illnesses has still not sustainably reduced. And more importantly, these particles have
added to the comorbidity and aggravated the current pandemic.
TERRE Policy Centre's flagship project , Smart Campus Cloud Network ( sccnhub.com) has not only created awareness on air pollution in the Educational Campuses about this life-threatening issue . It has used digital technologies to monitor and reduce the air-pollution.
The first ever Air Quality Index (AQI) measuring instruments in the any University Campus anywhere in India has been operational. Thanks to the help and encouragement of Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology ( IITM) and its Director Gufran Beig, the instrument measures AQI levels of in the 10 km periphery of educational campus. The students in MIT-World Peace University in Pune, have also developed algorithm to make the Index available on mobile-app. Anyone can down load the SAFAR-Air for free and look for city of Pune and them 'Kothrud ( MIT)'. It gives the details of AQ and also what needs to be done to reduce the pollution.
