Career in SDGs

How my career is linked to SDGs??

I am Aman.

A final-year student of MBA in Finance and doing part-time course in computer software to improve my industry readiness.

If asked to describe myself, I am an urban youth living in one of India's top ten cities. I love swimming, cricket and reading – especially those books which help me in developing a better understanding of human behaviors. About my career, I am keen to work in development finance. I am deeply interested to acquire necessary qualifications, competencies, and work experience in this domain.

How my career is linked to SDGs? I think yes. It is linked very deeply.

When I work in an NGO as a program lead, I will have to align my program goals, targets and indicators (measures of successes) with the relevant SDGs, which are close to the objective my organisation will be working for.

If I am working as a third-party assessor who must assess the effectiveness of a CSR program funded by my corporate client, I should have very deep knowledge of the SDGs which are addressed by the CSR program under review. It would help me in doing correct assessment of the results achieved with the funding provided. In short, I should be able to identify how the funds were utilized and what more was achieved with less. Knowledge and understanding of SDGs will also help me in identifying the gaps in the work done and reasons for those gaps.

As a member of the team responsible for identifying the right causes to be supported by the company I will work with, the SDGs framework will enable me and my team to identify the most critical problems of the target communities and define measurable targets with indicators so that we can plan an effective CSR program to benefit most needy people.

To me, SDGs would become a key to contribute effectively towards the long-term development of the society I would be serving.
