Digital Measurement Prevents Green Washing

"What is not Measured, Cannot be Managed". One of the important discussions of U75 during India's presidency of G20 was to track emission reduction and real-time monitoring and mapping of CO2 emission in the educational campuses /universities to help understand their progress towards net zero. The university campuses are the hub of educated Human resource development and hence can provide a much-needed force to create awareness on climate change to the masses and informed decision-making towards Net-zero, thereby contributing to India's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). National Education Policy 2020 aims to transform the educational system to align with SDGs. The natural corollary to this is to identify a mechanism to mobilize the university network towards climate resilience and develop an advanced technological tool that can integrate various plug-ins, connect students from various universities, and take action required to establish credibility and user interface. Even as we take steps to avoid the worst potential impacts of climate change - SDG 7 and SDG 13, we must become more resilient to those impacts that are now unavoidable. To fill the above gap, Green TERRE Foundation, Pune along with the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), IISc-Campus, Bangalore envisaged a proposal to deal with this innovative aspect. This will enhance our ability to assess how climate change will create new, or alter current, climate-related risks, and to take steps to better cope with these risks.
