The first ever ' Clean and Smart Campus Award', inspired by TERRE's project of Smart Campus Cloud Network ( SCCN ) was launched by AICTE among thousands of Indian colleges in 2019. Second 2020 edition is now launched. Colleges have received the questionnaires finalized jointly by AICTE, TERRE and International Institute of Waste Management (IIWM) and other experts. Awards will be presented early 2021 based on responses and site evaluation.
Some of the largest consumers of energy and water are the college and university campuses. To reward the initiatives of those who are taking effective measures in these areas in India, Smart Campus Cloud Network (SCCN) is proud to oversee the launch of the Clean and Smart Campus Award which is about to be presented to the college and university campuses by AICTE, Smart Campus Cloud Network (SCCN) and International Institute of Waste Management (IIWM) yet again for this year to promote and reward the right efforts in creating a sustainable campuses.
The most Smart, Climate and environment friendly campuses who have taken action in research, education and implementation of eco-friendly solutions will present their successes in answering a questionnaire on the status of their actions on-campus and off-campus. Smart Campus Cloud Network (SCCN) has been consulted in the intention to reward the campuses which are Smart, green and working on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
2019 was the first year for ' Clean and Smart Campus award. Since then there have been several colleges who have done exemplary work in the areas of campus waste disposal, environment management and especially those who have demonstrated this capability with the use of Smart technologies for monitoring, planning and evaluating plans and actions have been competing for this award. In light of the COVID 19 scenario in the coming weeks AICTE, TERRE and IIWM with other experts will be evaluating the answers to the questionnaires by looking at the entries from the campuses in the form of photos and videos presented as evidence of the claims to particular questions. The information would be verified if needed by site evaluation.
This year, there will be a new area being explored . It is related to Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS). This will help in identifying those colleges and university campuses which are taking guidance from traditional knowledge systems existing in India, which are being utilized for sustainability practices such rainwater harvesting, waste disposal, etc.
