Terre Policy Centre, as a part of an 'International E Internship Program on Climate Change and Biodiversity', invited Dr Ian Redmond, world renowned Naturalist and Conservationist to give a talk on the 'Role of Apes and elephants in Combating dangerous Climate Change' on 30th June 2020.

The International E-Internship program is a 7 week long internship, designed to give students and professionals worldwide, evidence- based knowledge and practices towards climate action.

Ian Redmond, ambassador of the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) has been working in the field of wildlife conservation for many years now, making great strides in bringing together international efforts for the cause. In the E-internship program, he demonstrated the critical role that is played by elephants and apes in maintaining balance in the ecology of the forests and the savannahs.

Appealing to the interns with captivating stories of gorillas as friends and great objects of study, he presented a strong case for their conservation which resonated with the young crowd. In a presentation filled with personal anecdotes from Rwanda and stories of families of gorillas known to Mr Redmond from generations, he filled the interns with a scientific curiosity and a narrative to feel personally close to these animals.

Very eloquently put by Mr Redmond that the natural tree planters and ''gardeners of the earth'' , the elephants and the gorillas must be preserved, for their existence defines the existence of a large part of the ecosystem.

Our interns were extremely delighted to have been a part of such an informative session. All of the interns mentioned that it was such a rare opportunity in their lives to have been learning about such a critical lesson of history from the very best expert around the world.
