SCCN to be featured in world’s largest gathering of Information Technology (WSIS)
TERRE in WSIS
Leveraging ICTs to Build Information and Knowledge Societies for SDGs
TERRE Policy Centre is invited by UNESCO to be a partner in the panel discussion in World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) 2018, which is the world's largest annual gathering of the ‘ICT for Development’ community.
The evident driving potential in youth to bring revolutionary changes always need a right direction. The skills and strength that young minds possess should be channelised with a good foresight. Guiding today’s youth for a sustainable future is not just a need, but it has become a demand because of the situation that the world is facing.
TERRE through SCCN believes that youth empowerment can be effectively achieved by engaging them on a common goal with a strong vision. This initiative has already started in India with top-notch universities and is gaining credibility among its students.
“Today’s students are future leaders, corporates and entrepreneurs. Budding sustainable approach among youth promises a sustainable world that we can leave behind for generations to come. And the world where no one would be left behind”, said Rajendra Shende, who would participate in Panel discussion.
The annual WSIS Forum scheduled from 19th March - 23rd March 2018 in Geneva, Switzerland is a global multi-stakeholder platform facilitating the implementation of the WSIS Action Lines for advancing sustainable development. The Forum provides an opportunity for information exchange, knowledge creation and sharing of best practices, while identifying emerging trends and fostering partnerships, taking into account the evolving Information and Knowledge Societies. The WSIS Forum is constantly evolving and strengthening the alignment between the WSIS Action Lines and the Sustainable Development Goals. The Forum will serve as a key platform for discussing the role of ICTs as a means of implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and targets, with due regard to the global mechanism for follow-up and review of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
“WSIS Forum will serve as a key forum for discussing the role of ICTs as a means of implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and targets”, said Dr. Bhanu Neupane, Senior official at UNESCO. “TERRE's participation in WSIS 2018 will cater in strategising youth engagement in the overall knowledge transaction processes and capitalizing on their digital skills to achieve SDGs in their campuses”, added Dr. Neupane.
