Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya is a Central University of India, located in Bilaspur C.G. State, established under Central Universities Act 2009, No. 25 of 2009. Formerly called Guru Ghasidas University (GGU), established by an Act of the State Legislative Assembly, was formally inaugurated on June 16, 1983. University Campus is a lush green campus covering about 70 percent of the land area under natural and planted forests. The campus is equipped with 2-megawatt rooftop solar power to reduce carbon emissions. There are a number of best practices followed on the campus such as the construction of green buildings as per GRIHA guidelines, solid waste disposal, rainwater harvesting systems , water conservation through natural ponds and tree plantations, single-use plastics are banned on the campus, promoting official work in digital mode to save papers and energy.
