Campus Sustainability Report of MIT Group of Institutions
We are living in the age of rapid and intense transformation. The buzz words are Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud platforms and Big Data. These words are now getting transformed into actions and it is expected that the world of millennial learners will move to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of United Nations. Amidst this, the educational institutes have no option but to adapt and transform. They have to ensure that the campuses are becoming ‘Smart’.
Smart Campus Cloud Network (SCCN) project initiated by TERRE Policy Centre is a global network of the education campuses of schools, colleges, institutes and universities committed to make a tangible contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Unique value addition of the network is the deployment of the digital mechanisms like, Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Networking and Big Data Analytics.
The campus should encourage students and faculties to ‘learn by doing’ the voluntary work to enhance the energy efficiency, optimize water conservation, waste management, air pollution and sustainable transport. The campus should conduct disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research, so as to build educational programs leading to innovation for Sustainable Development.
MIT Group of Institutions (Pune, Maharashtra, India) is striving to lead the campus transformation by valuing 3S, i.e. Science, Spirituality and Sustainability. These 3S exemplify institutional values and all the stakeholders in the institute align themselves with values that mirror their own. Not only hardware in the campus like buildings and landscape but also the software like eagerness and openness to learn will have an enormous impact on the environment. MIT Group encourages youth to reflect on such core values.
