17 SDGs for 'people and planet' are about achieving development goals from an economic, social and environmental perspective. Aligning CSR policy to the UN's sustainable development goals, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) hosted CSR-CSO Bridge 2018 with the theme of 'The CSR way to SDGs' on 9th March, 2018.
Rajendra Shende, Chairman TERRE Policy Centre and Former Director UNEP chaired the session as a Panelist and highlighted his notion of 'CSR is beyond charity and donation'. He introduced the project Smart Campus Cloud Network (SCCN) during the panel discussion on 'Exploring Role of Public-Private-Partnership'. Emphasizing on how private sectors can partner with universities in bringing out tangible contributions, he also mentioned of the support that SCCN has been receiving from the Government of India and UNESCO. Setting up a win-win-win situation in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can do wonders by benefitting the respective stakeholders and SDGs achievement at large.
"Having youth-centric approach towards internationally-declared goals serves as a catalyst in achieving them. A lesson learnt from the Millenium Development Goals must not repeat now for SDGs," said Rajendra Shende
The theme "The CSR Way to SDGs" helped to define how companies of all shapes and sizes can play a major role in driving a more sustainable, prosperous and inclusive society while also meeting their corporate goals of generating value and achieving competitive advantage.
