This time it is in the form ofYouth-2-Youth dialogue between India and China, under 'India-China Friendship Association for Environment' formed by TERRE Policy Centre (India) and Operation Earth (China).
As a first activity under India-China Youth-to-Youth (Y2Y) initiative, TERRE has conducted a nationwide online selection process in India for students between the age of 18 to 21 years old. The selection took place in 3 rounds: first – online registration form, second - video campaign competition and finally, personal interview.
The selected volunteers have unlocked the opportunity to join the Chinese volunteers in Wolong National Nature Reserve, Sichuan Province of China. The volunteers will work closely with the scientists and conservationists to contribute in 'reinforcing' small and isolated populations of wild pandas in the region through strategic release of captive pandas.
The Indian youths who will be traveling to China for the expedition from 1st October to 7th October 2018 are: Tejas Bagrecha, Third year student in IIT Indian School of Mines – Dhanbad Jharkhand, Devashree Joshi, Third year student in MAEER's Arts, Commerce and Science college – Pune Maharashtra and Kishore Reddy, Third year student in National Institute of Technology – Durgapur West Bengal
"We are excited to welcome our three Indian volunteers for this enriching experience," says Chen Liangzhong, Founder CEO of Operation Earth and Former Consultant of World Bank. "Surely, this first ever joint expedition of volunteers would trigger the Y2Y dialogue," he added.
